Points to remember:
Central idea is video games
There are 5 class periods for students to complete work, 54 minutes/class ~45 minutes of functional class time
7th graders or 9th graders
Must be interactive with classmates and internet- collaboration?
MUST incorporate 3-D printing ideas
WebQuest is an idea, not a thing. Based on using the internet in class and focusing on exploration (hence the term Quest).
End goal/task:
To create a simple video game using Flowlab Game Creator (100% free!!!) and to create 3D printed models of characters in their game. The entire process will be a collaborative class effort because in the real world, video games are a collaborative effort. **If students want to be more ambitious in what type of game they make, they need to have only a segment, or a "trial mode" of the game completed.
Possible Introduction:
Talk to them about video games and ask which ones they have played and are interested in. Discuss the various types of video game genres and introduce various genre types.
Play clips from various currently popular video games such as Five Nights at Freddy's, Undertale, Pokemon Sun and Moon. Have them analyze what they see, hear, and feel.
Let them know that they are making a video game as a class, or in groups (haven't decided yet, need to do more research).
Process:
Have class watch the tutorials for Godot Engine and learn about what is possible within the program (individual)
Brainstorm ideas for a game (small groups)
Vote on one or two ideas to create as a class (whole class)
Assign/choose various roles:
Project Manager
Visual Team
Visual team leader, Digital Visuals (scenery, characters), 3-D modelers/printers
Audio Team
Audio team leader, Sound effects, Music, Voice Acting
Concept Team
Concept team leader, Concept Art, Storyboard, Writers
Have the teams further explore what they are responsible for/ flush out the ideas
work collaboratively
discuss as a group
