Web Quest Lesson Plan
WebQuest- The Video Game Creation Lab
Above is the link to my WebQuest that was used with two classes of seventh graders. First of all, I absolutely loved creating the Webquest and working with the students. Everyday I would log in and interact with the students as they worked through a forum that I created on the website. This is a lesson that I would use again with my own students. I appreciated all of the different directions that the students went in with their game ideas. With more time and a better understanding of Flowlab, I'm sure the games would have been even more successful. I am partially to blame for this as I should have joined the classroom sooner and showed the students the basics of Flowlab, instead of at the end.
The WebQuest reflected my style of teaching in how open it was for the students and their ideas. There wasn't a single bad idea, and I wanted to make sure the students had the freedom to pursue an idea that interested them within the format I provided. I also feel like I reflected some of my own personality in the writing of the lesson, the forum instructions, and in my bio, as it was very personal to me. I believe that including the Bitmojis of myself also showcased that a lot and helped spark student interest as bitmojis are something that they would have been aware of.
As I have previously mentioned, students were able to post their progress in a forum that I had created and I would respond to them almost instantaneously with feedback. There they were also able to make their own accounts and have customized avatars that fit their personality. As for the content that I had introduced and had been researching all semester, they were able to interact with it directly and see for themselves how video games can be used for art. Something else that occurred was a form of peer tutoring . Some students were more technically advanced than others and would help teach the class how to do a certain function. Some of them even taught me something new about FlowLab.
Overall I think that the project was successful and that the students enjoyed the challenge that it provided.
